Minnesota Builders East Announces Grant Awards

Twenty three churches from around the state applied for the 2014 grants from Minnesota Builders East (MBE) during the application period which closed on April 30. The grant funding is based on MBE’s income from the previous year – interest received from loans we have provided to Methodist churches around the state and from the earnings from our investments – and it is our privilege to give this away every year in the form of grants.

MBE recently selected the winners of their grants for 2014. They are:

  • Christ UMC in Maplewood. Their grant is in support of an upgrade to their A/V system, which is needed as they work in covenant partnership with a church plant, to be more welcoming of their neighbors.
  • Mounds Park UMC in St Paul. They were awarded a grant to assist with the expenses of their Urban CROSS (Christians Reaching Out in Service in St Paul) program, which engages youth from around Minnesota to help with fix-up projects in the community.
  • Excelsior UMC. They received a grant to help upgrade their narthex area which is where their free Saturday lunch program is served. This is a growing community outreach program for the church.
  • Alexandria UMC. Butterfly Hill Nature Preschool is a new ministry which they are helping launch, and their grant will help to build a stage, gathering area, and paths in the outdoor spaces. Outdoor worship services and youth gatherings will also use the space.
  • Elysian UMC. Their grant is for assistance in re-roofing their bell tower, which has served their congregation and community for well over 100 years.
